When I have Secure VPN enabled and I am searching using the google search engine I frequently am required to validate that I am not a robot via Captcha. Turning off Secure VPN during that time stops the prompt from occurring. Google, like all geo-restricted websites, is blocked by denying users access based on their IP address. When you connect to the internet, your IP shows the country you are currently in, which means you have to play by that country’s rules. This is where a VPN can help. Google actively looks out for proxies/socks servers & adds them to some kind of black that's why Google knows when you are hitting the reCaptcha with a proxy . the only VPN that Google would not know about is a VPN that you setup on a
